Snow Melt Saturates Ground
When lots of snow melts at once, the ground becomes over saturated leading to water in the basement. Getting moisture out of your basement is necessary to ensure mold does not grow in your property afterwards. In this case, the homeowner was away on vacation when the snow melted so the moisture sat on the carpet and wicked up the walls. You would think water would not be able travel upwards but when this happens, water defies gravity. All drywall needs to either be replaced or drying equipment must be placed and running for longer than usual. Holes can be cut in the baseboard and air pushed through into the wall for quicker drying.
